    Meltdown and Spectre, everyone is vulnerable

    Last week there was a lot of news coverage on two major vulnerabilities which were discovered in today’s processors by Google’s Project Zero. These have been given the names Meltdown and Spectre. The first mainly affects Intel processors, the second also affects AMD and ARM (mainly used in mobile phones, tablets and IoT devices).

    Wi-Fi technology at SMEs is often outdated

    Small businesses with mobile workers often have Wi-Fi networks over eight years old. According to IDC, commissioned by network specialist Linksys, this is due to SMEs delaying their investments to wait for the latest developments.     Recent research by Deloitte, published in the FD (Dutch) on September 26, 2017, has shown that SMEs can not afford to mitigate the current cyber security issues in an affordable way. The market is said to be overheated, the solutions are too expensive and SMEs would only address the most urgent issues.

    On Tuesday, June 13th, Microsoft released a number of security updates. These repair vulnerabilities which can be exploited by viruses. An example of this is the recent WannaCry ransomware. Even unsupported versions of Windows will receive these updates.
